Brief
The unit was to be fitted out for a new use. The design team needed the shell, structure and existing services recorded accurately before layout and services design began, with drawings they could issue to tendering contractors.
Capture
We scanned the unit with the Leica RTC360: the floor slab, portal frame, mezzanine, roof structure, dock and personnel doors, and the existing mechanical and electrical services at high level. External elevations and the yard were captured from the ground and by drone. Registration in Leica Cyclone produced a single point cloud of the building and its surroundings.
Deliverables
Registered point cloud in E57 and RCP, structured by zone

Why it matters
Industrial units look simple but hide the details that break a fit-out: slab levels, haunch heights, purlin positions, existing drainage and service routes. Having them in the point cloud means the mezzanine, racking, offices and services are designed around what is there. See 3D laser scanning in Southampton and our laser scanning service .
