Brief
Tschuss is a Fast 40 class racing yacht. The owner needed accurate geometry of the hull, deck and cockpit so that modifications could be designed and fabricated to fit first time, without repeated trips to the boat with a tape measure.
Capture
With the boat on the hard we scanned the hull, deck, cockpit and foredeck with the Leica RTC360 and BLK360, setting stations on deck, on the ground around the cradle and on the yard’s access equipment to capture every surface with overlap. The stations were registered in Leica Cyclone into a single point cloud of the whole yacht.
Modelling
From the point cloud we surfaced the hull and deck in Autodesk Fusion and modelled the areas where work was planned, producing solid geometry that can be exported as STEP for the fabricator’s CAD and CNC. The point cloud was supplied alongside the model so every part could be checked against the boat before anything was cut.
Deliverables
Registered point cloud of hull, deck and cockpit (E57)
Surfaced hull and deck model in Fusion
Component geometry in STEP for fabrication
Photographic record
Based in Lymington on the Solent, we scan yachts and workboats in yards from Southampton and the Hamble to Cowes and Poole. See our marine and vessel scanning service .
